thanks for the relief, i was getting paranoid and had to jump out at least three time to look for loose parts. Most rotors have a spec for minimum thickness, and some rotors may not be able to be resurfaced. A good year mechanic changed the pads on the car not too long ago. Any time you get a brake job done or replace brake pads yourself, you must replace the shims. Jack up the rear and take the wheel off. I just had the same issue as you described about the scraping noise coming from underneath the car. You can measure the distance with a ruler, not a micrometer. The reason you wouldn't look to the wheel bearing first (and I'm NOT saying it CANNOT BE the wheel bearing, just saying you need to eliminate other things first) is because when a wheel bearing starts going bad it is a very small amount of play which it causes. Now when I brake going downhill or at high speed, I hear an annoying low-pitched WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW hum coming from rear that echoes up into the cabin. however, if the play is the same top down and left right then it's the bearing for sure.
