You have to drive well to carry over the scrub/bushes so take the marshalls advice and chose the right tee to play off.
So only 9 of 10 points, Charbonnier Alain Nice club house and facilities. Be prepared to be paired up at busy time. Every hole is interesting, the greens are close to perfection. We played off the yellow tees in a 2 club wind in 26 degrees heat and those who walked, carrying or with a push trolley, were pretty washed out at the end. Almost every hole has shorter or longer forced cary across shrubs and bushes, and you rather stay on the shorter grass, as any wayward shot is likely lost in the desert-like thorny rough. The back tee on the par 3 16th is one of the very oddest holes I have ever seen on a golf course. 2022-07-04 Slow round, no buggies, poor service, course design great, course condition poor, 5 and half hour round and staff who don't care. I paid 90 for a double room which included breakfast.
Only hole 13 you could be punished for a good tee shot that could run punishing rough on the left side.
For those who like playing in buggies and dont mind 4.5 hour plus rounds this wouldnt be an issue but not for those looking to walk and get round in less than 4 hours. This is a really interesting course, managed to play 45 holes here over 2 days in March, partially in 35mph winds. The problem is if you are short then you are dead in very very thick vegetation.
If you hold a stroke play medal competition here the scores can be VERY high. Choose 4 rounds From: Praia Del Rey and West Cliffs Golf Links. The course layout is the result of a long term study of the terrains conditions and characteristics to preserve the natural beauty and ecological balance of the site. | Post Review Share your thoughts to provide valuable feedback to the golf club and to help other golfers who may be planning to play here. Its as interesting as it is immaculate start to finish (it is however extremely difficult - do not even attempt a medal score round here unless youve got youre A+ game with you). 4 hours 30 minutes is the target length for a round, I suspect it takes most people longer than that on average. All very civilised and nothing to be too scared of! Greens were a little slow. 18th is a great finale, elevated tee shot over native area which looks a lot more tight than it really is and then approach (mid iron) to a green protected by a pond and the ocean on the back during last lights of the day highlight of the round! impressive characteristics of the course is just how anchored it is to the Perfect. No times for this date! I was a big fan. Absolute must play!! It will take you couple of minutes to find the first tee on the other side of the road, and if you are walking (yeah, golf has been meant for walking), you should run there well ahead of your tee time.
You will find in close neighbourhood two other championship courses, Royal Obidos, a masterpiece of the late Seve Ballesteros, and Bom Sucesso, a course build through large semifinished/semi-abandoned resort with various modern design villas and managed under the European Destinations brand of European Tour. The fairways are much wider than I had expected (and wider than they look from the tee on most occasions) so you have to be pretty wild to lose one to the left or right. 12th faces the bay and green seems to be in an infinity end and 16th has a blind shot to a fantastic green. Choose 3 rounds From: Praia Del Rey and West Cliffs Golf Links. Great layout in gorgeous scenery. Was this review helpful? The 7th is a particular challenge with a Pine Valley style Hells Half Acre to cross before a tough uphill shot to a well protected green.
There are some really long walks between greens and the next tee (and I do mean really long.) I think in that respect the layout is a real challenge but you can overcome it with use of a buggy. 17th has a tremendous tee shot over a dune where the more you cut the shorter the approach but a misshit will be high numbers. 2510-665 Vau - bidos, 2022 H19 Ltd. Respond to above review 11 reviews The view from first tee was breathtaking and rather scary! The conditioning was uniformly excellent. Cliffs is the most natural golf course site imaginable. I cannot begin to imagine how anyone of say 15 handicap would ever get fun out of playing here.
coastal vegetation. 2022-05-30 the front nine, with a pair of demanding par fours concluding the round at 1st 9 done 24 points . back 9 different story tricky dog legs ,blind shots and lots of sand and cabbage!!! The staff were great and very helpful, the facilities top notch, and the views quite amazing. I was off and on my way to the golf course at 0805. Modern clubhouse is huge and popped by semi-friendly staff (in particular, should you arrive early for the first tee time in the morning). However, I would also suggest you spend some time in Lisbon (an hour away) as well, and Oitavos Dunes is very easy to get to from there. Imaculate course and very challenging. Played here end of April. native coastal environment. Very good condition.
The other 3 are reachable to very well protected greens depending on wind, I have to highlight the view from 13th green to the tee and the ocean on the back .
Located an hours drive north of Lisbon on In a place of unspoiled nature, were the Wild West Europe meets the immensity of the Atlantic Ocean, a new golf experience managed by Praia D'el Rey is born. You may argue the extreme demand off the tee with usually native areas on both sides of the fairways but they are quite wide so if wind is not lateral and strong it is playable, even for higher handicaps. Joachim Mahn West Cliffs was designed by the world renowned golf course designer Cynthia Dye (Dye Designs). First the good: jaw-droppingly beautiful at every turn, and definitely designed to require real thought on every shot. I played it on the early morning of April 20, with the wind blowing at more than 50km per hour, which made it an almost impossible challenge. When I say long I mean around 200 yards.
The contoured greens, and the fairways were immaculate. Brooks Cruise ship landed at 0700. 1 person found this review helpful Visually intimidating and there must be a lot of balls hit from there never to be found again. Even from these forward tees there are a lot of long carries on the course. The course has the two loops of 9 coming back to the Club House which is always good if you want to play only 9, for double start for Tournaments, etc. I think it would be fair to say that the back 9 feels a little tighter off the tee than the front 9. Feedback | The only other consideration would be that this isnt going to give you the height of Portugese nightlife but its very convenient for the golf and you could always taxi from here into nearby Obidos for a bit more authentic fun. Our main criticism is that the course just wasnt that much fun. 3rd is a monster, maybe the tighter tee shot and approach as well to a small green towards a pond. The contrasts of the white sand, the emerald green of fairways, the ocean and native areas is just breathtaking. Bit too much traffic on the course. Respond to above review Just make sure you take a buggy if its your second round of the day and be prepared to be out there for quite a while. The US architect, Cynthia Dye, has designed this course - sculpted out of the dunes near the Atlantic Coast in Portugal. There are also two or three greens that are completely overdone (the short par four with mogul dead centre of the green being the worst offender, but not the only one.). Excellent course and courteous staff at every touch point, AMIGUINHO CORDEIRO Michel Our Services | Yes, and it is not an easy course, in particular on a day with strong wind from the Atlantic, moving lots of fine sand from the waste areas all around the place. 279 If I came back I would play royal obidos before playing either West Cliffs or Praia del ray both in terms of course and experience.

These opinions do not necessarily represent the views of Golfshake.com. 18th is a signature hole. Very enjoyable combination. It would make a marked difference if West Cliffs could soften the course and do similar. In fact, I should pause right here. Its nice to have a downhill tee shot and if you are going take on the green in 2 it needs a long iron to get there - a great finishing hole for matchplay. Berlengas Islands and bidos Lagoon, this dramatic seaside layout has been laid Even the par 3s will fully test you. This is golf on a big budget. Praia Del Rey & West Cliffs. It is a great enhancement to the Praia DEl Rey course, but very different by art and nature, much wilder and rougher than the older one. Respond to above review My one gripe, was the greens themselves. Its a good finish to the 9 for sure. This means the course plays 5,500 meters (or 6,000 yards) from them. Lovely, Simon Kaye Great value at 55 euro and Formosa lovely pair when played with Praia dEl Rey down the road. I played this course couple of times under varying wind conditions, and I always enjoyed it.
I was met on the first tee by a very friendly starter. Both the 6th and 7th are par 5s coming in at over 500 yards. *Signature Hole - the 18th , a great par 4.
attractive location where it fits seamlessly into its natural surroundings.
and a lot of elevation changes. Dave Bocarro The par 3 5th is a lovely Redan, the green slopes from front right to back left with a bunker protecting it deeply on the left hand side. There will be many more long walks in between the green and next tee on the course, as well as elevation changes, but the course is still fine for walking. This course underwent a true transformation. 2022-05-14

2022-06-21 What is difficult about the golf course is, that the course does not forgive mistakes (statement of the starter: only 5% of the balls are found in the rough (trust him)). Its clear from when you arrive at the clubhouse that no expense has been spared in the development of this facility. Respond to above review West Cliffs is well known as one of the best new courses in continental Europe. Even in the peak months in May and September you can get a double room for around 120 so I would recommend considering this option seriously.

The eighteenth will live long in my memory. You might be confused when looking for the first tee, as the one in front of the clubhouse is actually the 10th Tee, drivable short par 4 down toward the sea. Bar staff took 20 min to take our order for coffee. There are some rally testing holes especially the par 5s and their indices are not generous. You are either on the short stuff or dead. 2022-06-12 It's essential to keep on the cultivated stuff as a visit into the scrubland will almost inevitably mean a lost ball. The clubhouse is done very well - an open plan bar/dining room with great views over the driving range and 10th hole - and a high quality pro shop. Golfshake Apps | Please change date. Maybe it was just the pins we had during our round. complexes with a bit of shaping and then define the limits of grassing. Tell us what you thought. It is worth noting that our group of 6 included a decent spectrum of golfers with respectable handicaps (0,3,4,7,10,17). 5, 12 and 16. Earlier in the day I had played Praia dEl Rey and the ball seemed to go on for ever there. Good Course, phantastic landscape, weak restaurant. Fairways due to the type of grass were soft with not much roll but again, it is ok. Just make sure you play the tees where you will enjoy the course and West Cliffs will be a blast with some of the best views in Europe. In wind this is truly impossible and v difficult even with no wind.
Respond to above review I have seen reviews were it's pointed out that it was too easy losing balls into the rough, and I agree, however, there is more than enough fairway and first cut allowed to you before the rough comes into play. It has a layout like monte rei but sadly does not come close in either the playability or the experience. Played this course?
